  The sugar cube.

  firstly thanks to cofty & smiddy for the kind words on my " final post" .

  this post is simply to say over two months have passed since my last post and since then i have with my wife and son seen elton john live, visited stockholm, berlin, and most importantly appreciated " the natural beauty of my neighbourhood" with out even thinking about the watchtower.

  i have also attended 3 watford football matches with my son and made better relationships with my parents, discovered harvey's draught beer and made new friends in my local pub.

  I thank every individual poster for their kind replies. I spent many years in my congregation, loyalty and friendship were not repaid. When I left I never even got a thank you. Never even a phone call. We are all better off if we can wash our hands of such an organisation. Thank you everyone for acknowledging my contribution to the board. " slidin Fast" yes I got to see the Vasa in Stockholm.

  I would like to conclude that if as a child you had a dream, mine was to become a professional footballer, and if like me you can pinpoint the moment you realised your dream wasn't going to happen. And if like me you remember the sence of disappointment, well at this moment I can say dreams can come true if you want them to, but if you want them to its up to you. We just need to concentrate on the sugar cube we drop in the coffee, see the little things not the big things. Because the little things are really the big things. Friendship and helping each other on an Internet forum is one of those little things that is really one of those very big things.

  This post is simply to say over two months have passed since my last post and since then I have with my wife and son seen Elton John live, visited Stockholm, Berlin, and most importantly appreciated " The natural beauty of my neighbourhood" with out even thinking about the watchtower. I have also attended 3 Watford football matches with my son and made better relationships with my parents, discovered Harvey's draught beer and made new friends in my local pub. But the best is the quality time with my wife ( Anne Mari) and my son ( Orlando)

  I met a former friend in the " truth" he was doing a gas and safety certificate for me on a rental property I own. He confided in me he is trapped because his wife and kids are so indoctrinated. He is also a Watford f.c supporter but whilst I attended with my son ,the early kick off on Sunday prevented him. He had a meeting to attend.

  Reason for the post, who am I to judge anyone? I am not interested in converting or debating on a persons faith or athalisam. Why do I say that? Well that terrible plane crash that wiped out the Brazilian football team, co pilot, and journalists. The families may need a faith, a belief to survive. We must live as we can, be ourselfs and maybe the only truth is life and truth are terrible. As for the individual we make the most of it. I am such a lucky bastard I love my wife and child so much and they love me. This is enough....I hope it continues forever. But life is unpredictable and what I believe, what ever you believe, if you can be by yourself and watch a sugar cube dissolve in your coffee and be content your a lucky person.

  " To my dad. To the person that always stands up for me. Happy Birthday Michael. With lots of love and kisses and hugs" ect ect Orlando.

  Such a simple gestures of love should not be taken for granted, yet as a witness such love was denied us and our children. Don't let the bastards win...

  Science my son and I.

  a recent o.p origins of the universe bought home to me with ovbious clarity that i have no scientific background.

  this realization was rather embarrassing for myself to admit, particularly as my child of 11 has began asking some rather intersting questions on scientific matters.

  anyway i have subscribed to " scientific america" because i find it a great magazine for those with no scientific background.

  COFTY.....thanks for the Khan Academy recommendation, my son and I spent hours yesterday on the computer science learning to write codes using the Processing language. We both can't wait to continue tonight...with a delivered pizza and coke.

  Wish I had these opportunities as a kid.

  Not sure the point I am trying to make, except any poster posting on the board could pass away at anytime. Now I am not saying we are " dead men walking" but I think I am deeply skeptical of elevating strong posters who passed away, and failing to recognize the many posters who were less prominent and had less impact but sadly now R.I.P.

  What I am saying is when I was at the K.H, I noticed how those that were not baptized were treated when they passed away. I always remember a strong family in the truth had a son who died from illness, and as the son was not baptized and had his problems, it was as though the congregation thought him not worthy of mourning. I never understood why his parents didn't tell the congregation to f...k o..ff. I mean the son wasn't even allowed a "proper" witness funeral. I noted his mother was devastated by her sons death, and I won't judge her, but the way she was treated by the elders and congregation at this time really pissed me off. I visited her with my wife many times, but I once visited her on the ministry with an elder and she was smoking,or at least the cigarette packet was clearly visible...as we left I said "those cigarettes are between us" and I believe they were.

  it's a shame the unthinkable needs thinking about, and we will all be added someday to the list of those who contributed to this board and now R.I.P. Yet hopefully for most of us we will part company from the board and find a happy life before that inevitability happens. However the contribution of a posters posts can be more meaningful and worthwhile, than they realized. It would be a nice thought if those posters who "Phadero" mentioned in her O.P made such a contribution to a strangers life in hyper-space. It kind of makes a life worthwhile..

  Keinlezard, Thanks for engaging and your opinions. Communication is never easy, so I appreciate your attempts at English, particularly as my compulsory French at school showed me how hard it is too speak and write in another language.

  My son is in charge of his education and I am their to support him, the "watchtower" is not. My son will have a better education than the " better than university" education I was told I was receiving growing up reading the awake magazine.

The readership seems aimed at general readers, and therefore the articles I hope will encourage my son and I to create a shared interest in his ovbious desire to learn about science.

  "You Can Do Just Enough Ministry To Dislike It"

  when you were "in" did you ever actually enjoy the ministry?

  and i made no secret about it.

  instead i would joke about me feather knocking, and made sure i had my bible in hand so as they come to the door they know what im about so they can shut me down before i even start.. i always wondered how or why there were people who enjoyed it.

  I hated door knocking because I am very shy, but I made some great friends from it. The trick was to knock on the door and find some great people who invited you in and who you found a connection with. So if I knocked on a door it was always the person who opened the door and not preaching the magazine in my hand that was important to me. Why? Because I learnt that the person who opened the door was always more interested in me first and the magazine second. I am pleased to say I have friends today from door knocking, because we connected not by my preaching, but by a connection we had for playing records, or talking football ect...
